Obituary for Wendy D. Fowlkes

Wendy D. Fowlkes
Wendy D. Fowlkes was born November 7, 1956, in White Plains, New York to the union of Vester G. and Nancy L.P. Fowlkes. On May 27, 2017, Wendy went home to be eternally at rest with the Lord.

She leaves behind to celebrate her life a daughter, Ebony J. Fowlkes; Godmother Geraldine Williams; Godchildren Londyn Harris, Christian Harris and Darren Mosley; cousins Jocelyn Bailey and Cheryl Kyle-Withers, Earl Ford, Walter Handy, Christopher, Jeffrey, and Malik Ford, Erik and Darryl Handy; nephews Brandon Mosley and a host of family and friends. Wendy is predeceased by her parents Vester and Nancy Fowlkes; maternal grandparents Amos and Nettie B. Pinkard; and paternal grandparents Fernanda and Clara Fowlkes.

Wendy grew up in White Plains, NY and graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in White Plains, NY. Then she went on to study psychology at the University of Bridgeport in Bridgeport, CT. After college Wendy worked as a head teller at Apple Savings Bank, Customer Service Representative at the Mutual of Omaha Life Insurance Company, and most recently as a Senior Financial Services Specialist at U.S. Alliance Federal Credit Union.

Growing up in White Plains, Wendy has always been involved in the community. Previously, she was a member of Jack and Jill of America, the NAACP, and the George Washington Elementary School PTA. She was also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Wendy was also very active at Trinity United Methodist Church. There she served in various capacities including, but not limited to chairperson and counter for the Finance Committee, Trustee Board member, Administrative Council secretary, the past United Methodist Women president and member, Pastor Parish Relations member, Lay Speaker, Women’s Day Committee member, and Church Anniversary Committee member. Wendy also taught Vacation Bible School to the youth of Trinity and neighboring community. In addition, she loved singing with her choir, The Voices of Trinity. She did not stop there. Wendy also worked tirelessly for the New York Annual Conference. She served as a Conference Trustee member, Conference Finance and Administration member, and a member of the District Council on Ministries.

In her spare time, you could find Wendy watching a basketball or football game. She loved cheering on the NY Giants and the “Showtime” Lakers. Wendy was an avid reader. You could also catch her playing Bid Whist or Spades. She also loved animals. When Wendy wasn’t doing any of these activities she was hitting the highway to visit her family and friends. Her smile and loving nature was contagious and will be missed by all who truly knew her.
