Leroy B. Rhodes, 85, of White Plains, New York, was called home to his heavenly father on May 3, 2016. Leroy was born on April 17. 1930 in Manhattan, NY, to Elizabeth Brown and Carlton Lee Rhodes, who both predeceased him, but he was raised by his grandmother, Rebecca Nicholson.
Leroy served in the U.S. Air Force before transferring to the U.S. Navy, where he would eventually retire after about 21 years. He also held a position with the Mobil Corporation as a Gas Station Attendant, and maintained a newspaper delivery route. He also became a member of the Harvest Christian Fellowship in Manhattan, NY, where he started worshipping in 1988. He was the Administrative Assistant. They affectionately called him “Leroy of the Office”. He organized the Bookstore, caring and coordinating everyday schedules and events. He was called Pastor Mike Finizio's personal assistant. He went to the Calvary Chapel Ministers' Conference with him back in the early 90's, which was held in Costa Mesa, California. This pastor's retreat was attended by pastors all over the world. He was one of few blacks in that inner circle. His wisdom and extensive military experience lent itself as a gift personally and administratively to the people of Harvest. He formed a very close bond with the people of God, and especially with Mike, Diane and their family.
In his spare time, he loved to listen to his Jazz music, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Sam Cook, and many others. Over the years, due to his love for music, he started a music collection, and even started practicing the guitar. Leroy became a member of the Theodore D. Young Community Center in Greenburgh, NY, where he participated in activities with the seniors. He was a kind, loving, God-fearing man who was always willing to help family and friends.
