Obituary for Carrie Belle Williams

Carrie Belle Williams was born in Buckingham, Virginia on February 21, 1930. Carrie, her older sister, Mary, and their mother, Nannie, moved to White Plains before Carrie turned two. There, her mother eventually met and married her second husband, Arthur Seward.

Carrie graduated from White Plains High School, and began work as a housekeeper for a number of families in Westchester. On August 15, 1953, Carrie married William “Hubert” Williams. One year, one month, and one day later, their beloved son, Gary Lee, was born.

In 1963, the entire extended family moved to Chatterton Hill. Soon, they joined the Chatterton Hill Church, where Carrie became active in all aspects of church life – choir, Women’s Group, tending the kitchen, catering, and watching over the church from across the street.

Carrie loved being a homemaker, and considered her home a sanctuary. She also loved her family, her church family, and was a loyal and supportive friend to many. She was extremely close to her mother, and to her son. She carried on her favorite tradition of the daily post-mortem at the end of the day – sharing the day’s happenings with Gary each evening.

Carrie passed away on March 7, 2014, at White Plains Hospital after a brief illness. She is survived by her son, Gary; her sister, Mary Wallace; her nephew, Rick and his family; and a host of other relatives and friends. Carrie touched a countless number of lives, and will be missed by everyone who knew her and loved her.
