Pickin', Singing & Smiling
Dear Uncle Harold,
You will always be the smiling Uncle that had a song for every situation. My weekends, growing up, were made more fun when you and my dad added music for us to sing silly songs and dance to. Who could forget old standards like "work your fingers to the bone, what do you get? Boney Fingers!" Or "Does chewing gum lose it's flavor on the bedpost overnight?"
The movies you directed for Diane, Jackie, Val and me were so much fun especially the magic garbage can that miraculously produced all four of us. Also, the world's first music video; Puff the cat chasing a mouse on the porch to the tune of "I got my eye on you".
You always had the best "toys" and newest cars. I especially loved the Rhythem Ace (drum beats in a box! Brilliant!!) and the first car phone in a Huge box!
You brought music into my life (Dad only played when you were around!) and I didn't realize how much I missed the gift of LIVE music during family gatherings until my daughter married a musician. I am glad you "travelled" to California Thursday morning before you passed and had me play the video of you playing and singing at Val's 1986 BBQ . It gave me a fresh music memory of not only you but my Dad and Mom and Uncle Artie; ALL HAVING FUN. That will forever be my memory of you- Smiling, Pickin' and Singing. I hope there was a guitar waiting for you on the other side😃
