Alice Lois Tinnin was born in Banksville, Pennsylvania on December 27, 1917, to the late Houston London and Mary Elizabeth McElrath McDoyle. She was the second of seven children.
The family relocated to the White Plains/Greenburgh area in 1927 where Alice attended the Greenburgh Public Schools. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Union Baptist Church by the late Rev. Dr. Louis W. Hughes. As a young girl, in 1928 Alice was among the children that marched from the Elms Street Church to the then new Union Baptist Church on Manhattan Avenue where she would remain a faithful member.
In 1939 Alice was united in Holy Matrimony to Charles Nathaniel Tinnin, Sr., and from that union a son, Charles Jr., was born.
Alice was employed as a housekeeper in the Westchester County area for more than fifty years until she retired to stay home and care for her ailing husband.
Alice was a Christian, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She loved her ”folks” as she called her family, on birthdays, holidays and special occasions she would always send you a card --- you could count on her to remember you. Precious memories of her will forever remain in our hearts.
Alice has seen so much in her life time from riding in a buggy to electric cars and voting for an African- American president. She would often say that she had a good long life.
God called Alice’s name --- 'I have prepared a place for you' --- and the Angels came from heaven to escort her home. She quietly entered into eternal life on December 17, 2013 while she was sleeping.
Alice leaves to cherish her loving memory two sisters: Mae Sanders, of Greenburgh, NY, and Carolyn (Cammie) McDoyle, of Ardsley, NY; two granddaughters, Sharon (Benny) Robinson of Philadelphia, PA, and Donna (David) McCoy of Belleville, NJ; four great-granddaughters, Chadya and Chanyse Robinson, Leche’ McCray and Alexis Reshard; two great-great-grandsons, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband Charles Sr. and son Charles Jr., sisters Carrie Green, Dolly Hall, Evelyn (Teenie) Collins, brother Donald (Bop) Mc Doyle, Sr., and great-granddaughter Katrice Coram.
God has her in His keeping; we have her in our hearts!
