Obituary for Adele “Adella” Richardson Watts

Mrs. Adele Richardson Watts was born on February 16th,1937, in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Julius Murphy and Lucy Mae Hazelwood. Adele moved to White Plains, New York in the mid-1950's and graduated from White Plains High School. Afterwards she attended a Nursing School to pursue a nursing career. In 1963, she met the love of her life, Billy Raye Watts at the telephone company in Mamaroneck, New York, where they were co-workers. On August 30th, 1964, they were joined in holy matrimony.

Adele worked as a private caretaker for a few clients. She then changed her employment to The White Plains Pharmacy where she was the Pharmacy Manager. After working with The White Plains Pharmacy, Adele changed her employment and worked for Post Pharmacy as a Manager for 20 years. While working at Post Pharmacy, Adele thrived and became a staple in the pharmacy and in White Plains. Adele remained at Post Pharmacy until their closing in 2003.

Adele joined Calvary Baptist Church of White Plains and was a faithful member for over 50 years. In addition to being a faithful member of Calvary, Adele was a faithful, loyal, reliable, and longtime member of The Ushers Ministry of Calvary. She also was the Sick Committee Chairperson of the United Ushers Association, a member of the Westchester Usher’s Assemblies, and The United Ushers Benevolent League. Adele truly enjoyed being an Usher.

Adele Watts departed her life on May 8th, 2023, at Calvary Hospital located in the Bronx, New York.

She is survived by three sons: Keith Watts of Los Angeles, California, Tony Watts of White Plains, New York, Curtis Burgh of White Plains, New York; sister, Verna Mayhawk of Olathe, Kansas; four nieces: Diane White of Peekskill, New York, Pamela Earl and Debra Earl Hines of White Plains, New York and Dierdre Earl Clark of Atlanta, Georgia; 17 grandchildren; and 28 great grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons: Spencer and Larry Watts; one daughter: Velma Watts; sister: Blondell Whitley; and husband: Billy Raye Watts.

A Wake/Visitation/Viewing will be held on Tues. May 23rd, 11:00AM-12:00PM at Calvary Baptist Church with limited capacity, followed by Funeral Service at 12:00 Noon. But the church will be live-streaming the services on ZOOM, also available on our website the day of the service where it says WATCH WEBCAST, so you're able to view on ZOOM/there/here also/instead. So you may come to the church to try to attend, with your masks on. At the very least you can get hand sanitizer & sign the register book (NOTE: please feel free to bring your own pen). If not at capacity, you will be allowed in to have a seat; but if at capacity by the time you get there, you may be required to leave the premises after signing register book, so as not to be in violation nor cause a health hazard, so please govern yourself accordingly. Regardless of if you're able to enter/be seated, or not, please refrain from touching/hugging/handshaking, ONLY elbow bumping briefly if at all. If instructed, PLEASE KINDLY RESPECTFULLY leave the building & premises if the church is at their capacity. PLEASE KINDLY RESPECTFULLY follow & abide by the directions of the funeral home staff and/or church or cemetery personnel at all times. If sending flowers, they may be delivered either on Mon. May 22nd, 2023 by/before 6:00PM to Lee's Funeral Home, and/or on Tues. May 23rd by/before 10:30am to Calvary Baptist Church.
