Obituary for Andre DeWitt Johnstone

ANDRE DeWITT JOHNSTONE
1949 - 2022

Andre DeWitt Johnstone was born on May 4, 1949 in New York City, New York to Evelyn Ramsey Johnstone and Kenneth Johnstone, Sr. He attended elementary school at St. Gerard Majella School in Hollis, Queens, New York. He graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in Cambria Heights, New York. After high school he attended Columbia University School of Pharmacy for two years and began his career at various local pharmacies and at a drug treatment program. After his career as a Pharmacy Tech he began working at the United States Post Office for over 25 years as a Mail Handler in their mail processing plant where he retired.

DeWitt spent all holidays and special occasions with family. He reached out by telephone to family members who lived at a distance. He enjoyed music, especially Jazz, Rhythm and Blues and loved attending Jazz concerts. In addition to his love for music, he enjoyed watching old Sitcoms {especially Abbott and Costello, Amos and Andy, and Jackie Gleason).

DeWitt was very creative and his passion was to collect, swap and sell coupons to anyone who wanted to save a buck. He was a very private person. However, he had the "Gift of Gab" and would talk non stop about his favorite interests with eloquence and fluency covering everything from comedy, musical artists, politics and life with humor.

Dewitt went to be with the Lord on October 13, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Arkisha Nyree Wilkins, Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Valerie Johnstone, White Plains, NY and Darlene Johnstone, Woodbridge, VA; three brothers, Kenneth Johnstone Jr. (Carol), East Orange, NJ; Keith Johnstone, St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands; Kevin Johnstone, (Mytris), Newark, NJ; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins from New York to Florida.
