Obituary for Leroy S. Wyatt
Leroy S. Wyatt transitioned into eternal rest on September 13, 2020 at the Epic
Nursing/Rehabilitation Center in White Plains, NY.
Leroy S. Wyatt was born May 17, 1930 in Brunswick County, Virginia to the late Sheffie
and Irene Jones Wyatt. He received his early education in the Brunswick County school
system. He graduated from St. Paul's Polytechnic Institute in Laurenceville, Virginia.
In 1952 he graduated from Virginia State College (now Virginia State University) with
a Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture. During his matriculation at Virginia State he was
in the ROTC and was initiated into Sigma Phi Beta Fraternity, Inc.
One of the great joys of Leroy's life, that he took pride in was his military service. He
served five years in the U.S Army and was honorably discharged with the rank of 151
Lieutenant. He served in the Korean conflict. Leroy was a life member of VFW Post#
5469 out of Harrison, NY.
Leroy was an active and dedicated member of the Chatterton Hill Church. He loved
his spiritual home at CHC and as a result of that love, he served in several capacities.
He was a Deacon, Trustee, House Chairman and Sexton. Leroy loved that historic
building and his top priority was keeping it up to date and in the best of shape. He
was a Director Emeritus of the Battle Hill Association and a Neighborhood Watch
member.
Leroy retired from General Foods Research Center in Tarrytown, NY in 1986 after 25
years of loyal service. He took pride in his work and the ability of a man to support
his family and enhance the quality of his environment. Hard work was his rally cry and
what guided him forward. It was not uncommon for Leroy to have many jobs and to
always have his hand to productive engagements.
He was one of the most centered men. He was very down to earth, humble and
unpretentious. He loved nice things, but not focused on materialisms. He would help
anyone he could and was unassuming in his care for others. With his giving, he also
provided heartfelt advice that was structured on the foundations of wisdom and life
experience.
Leroy was a family man. He adored his family and honored his parents to the day of
his transition. He understood the struggles and sacrifices that his father made and
was determined to use that as his foundation in creating his own family. Everyone
can recite the story of his father and the money jars in the smoke house. When Leroy
asked his dad about the money in the smokehouse, his dad's response was "we are
going to buy us a house son".
Leroy was preceded in death by his beloved son Karl, loving daughter-in-law Emmy,
his brothers James, Johnson and Herman and sisters Pearl Walker and Daisy Cooper.
Leroy was the youngest of the Wyatt children.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, his rock
and jewel Rose Wyatt; sons, Keith (Valencia) of Hopewell Junction, New York and
Kenneth of Bedford, New Hampshire; two granddaughters, Caroline and Danica;
two grandsons, James and Jayden; a daughter-in-law Orlanda Wyatt of White Plains,
New York, a special friend Carlette Mitchell of White Plains, NY and a host of relatives
and friends.
