Obituary for Elenora D. Smith (Davis)

Elenora Smith was born on July 22, 1930 to Thomas and Marie Elizabeth Davis. She passed away on April 3, 2020 in White Plains, New York.

After graduating from high school she earned an Associate's Degree and embarked on a long career as a licensed practical nurse.

Elenora and George R. Smith were married on July 23, 1950 in a lavish wedding at her home which was covered by the local newspaper. From this union Raymond Leon Smith was born on April 22, 1955.

Elenora grew up during a lively era of entrepreneurship, self-determination, culture, classic jazz music and community activism which influenced her throughout her life. She was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church of White Plains, New York for sixty-nine years, a member of the Sunday School, the Gospel Chorus, and an original member of the Chancel Choir. Travel was one of her passions; using her strong leadership and organizational skills, she planned trips for large groups of people to destinations all over the world. As a member of the Theodore D. Young Community Center, she coordinated the Fairview Greenburgh Center Bridge Club, was instrumental in organizing the Theater Club, volunteered in many capacities and was a strong presence. She supported the continuous improvement of her community through participation with Parkway Gardens and Homes. In 2017 she was inducted into the Westchester County Senior Hall of Fame for her contributions towards improving life for seniors in the County.

She conducted herself with great self-assurance and confidence in her actions and the many opinions she held. With good intentions, she readily shared those opinions with everyone she knew. She was active, spirited and strong. She leaves a lasting impression on her many friends and relatives, all of whom are saddened by her death and will greatly miss her.

She was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband, George, in 1978, and her beloved son, Raymond in 2012.

Left to mourn (but also to smile) when remembering her unique qualities and her take charge nature are her many, many friends and relatives including her cousins, Marcie Brown, Carrie Cheek, David Cheek, Mildred Champion, Paulette Coleman, Linda Cheek-Richards, Darryn Cheek, Della Burgess, Debra Belle, Monica Morgan, Douglas Coleman, Martin Richards, Gregory Smoot, and Jeffrey Brown.
