Obituary for Dena "Dean" Coleman

Dena Coleman formerly of White Plains, New York quietly departed this life on July 2, 2019 in Danbury, Connecticut. She was born one of five siblings on October 25, 1923 in Woodruff, South Carolina to Harriet Rhodes and Thomas Roebuck. Dena came to New York in the late 1940’s where she established her home in White Plains. She worked as a nanny in Scarsdale, New York.

Later, while living in White Plains she became a clerk at the White Plains Public Library. This position was perfect because she was an avid reader. She was active in the community and held the position of Secretary for the White Plains Tenant Counsel. A hardworking mother and grandmother, Dena stayed active with her grands and great grands up until her early 90’s. She enjoyed watching game shows. Her favorites included Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and Family Feud. She volunteered at White Plains Hospital for over 40 years.

Dena, affectionately known as “Dean” to her family and friends will be greatly missed. She touched so many people’s lives with her gentle ways and humble demeanor. She was very sociable and loved to dance. Always keeping things lively while saying “make some noise”!

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Janet Coleman-Howell, grandchildren Karah Greenfield, Ryan Greenfield, Erica Howell, Harold Coleman, Crystal Patton and Tiffany McKee, great grandchildren Andre Jourdain, Adrian Jourdain, Jasmine Patton and Jordan McKee. Preceded in death by husband Heber Coleman, son Harold Coleman and grandson Anthony Coleman.

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house
of the Lord forever” Psalm 23:6
