LEGACY OF LIFE

Mother Elddee Irma Gary of White Plains NY, known by her loved ones as “Lil Bits” was born February 26, 1920 in Tallahassee, Florida to the late Luke and Florida Robinson. She was the eldest of her three siblings, Daisy Perkins, Marjorie Shaw and Robert Johnson.

Elddee was educated in the New Rochelle public school system and she received her High School Diploma from New Rochelle HS in 1939. She always boasted to her children and grands that she was an “A” student in English. She shared her love for English by correcting you when your grammar was incorrect in her presence.

On October 4, 1944, she united in holy matrimony with Robert Charles Gary Sr. and from their union, three children were born, two daughters, Judy and Michele, and one son, Bobby. Elddee was a hard worker; she worked as a seamstress in Port Chester, NY and as a hostess at Tark’s in White Plains, NY for 13 years. Her desire to care for people eventually brought her to Nathan Miller Nursing home of White Plains, where she worked for over 20 years as a nursing aid. At times, she would bring her able patients to her home where she would entertain them and give them a taste of her famous fried chicken and sweet iced tea.

Elddee was a God fearing woman and had a heart for the Lord. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church of New Rochelle and served as a Sunday school Teacher. Once she moved to White Plains, she joined Bethel Baptist Church where two of her children were baptized. She then joined Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Lester Cousin and held her membership for over 40 years. She served faithfully on the Nurses Ministry, which is now known as the Emergency Care, Health & Wellness ministry, and the Pulpit aid ministry where she served as Treasurer.

Elddee went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 1, 2019. She will be remembered by her caring spirit, her passion for reading, her love of country music and for the good meals she prepared. Left to cherish her memories are; brother, Robert Johnson of California; daughters, Judy Gary Cartwright of Peekskill, NY and Michele Gary-Dolph of White Plains, NY; loving son-in-law, Timothy Dolph of White Plains, NY; grandchildren, Janine Keve (Calvin) of White Plains, NY; Justin McDoyle of Yonkers, NY and Melissa McDoyle of White Plains, NY; great grands, nieces, nephews, and a host of good friends.

Her husband, Robert Charles Gary Sr.; son, Robert “Bobby” Gary Jr.; sisters, Daisy Perkins and Marjorie Shaw; and grandsons William Cartwright Jr. and Gary Tyrone Cartwright predeceased her.
