Obituary for Gloria B. "Gee-Gee" Waters

Gloria B. Waters, 95 Years of age, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. Also known as Gee Gee, Gloria was born and raised in Harlem, NY and resided most of her adult life in upper Manhattan and The Bronx. Over the last 20 years she lived with her daughter, April in White Plains, NY until she moved to Sunrise Senior Living in Mount Vernon, NY.

Gloria Banda was born in New York City on December 6, 1922 to Beatrice Demby and Kalu Banda. She attended local elementary and junior high schools and graduated from Julia Richman High School. After high school, Gloria worked for the United States Post Office where she met the love of her life, Lorie Waters. She and Lorie married at St Charles Church and were together for 51 years. They had three children, Gloriana (Ginger), Lonnie and April.

While raising her children, Gloria was a home maker. She managed the household finances and became quite adept at stretching the budget to provide all that the family needed. She eventually took a part time job at Alexander’s distribution center where she also honed her excellent shopping skills. Soon after, she began working full time for the New York City department of Human Services, from which she retired in 1985. After retiring, Gloria held a part time job in the Nursing department at Lehman College.

Gee Gee was a social, fun loving soul – the consummate “diva”. She enjoyed traveling, especially on cruises with her closest friends. She loved parties (or affairs as she called them) and was never happier than when listening to the Gospelites at St. Charles 9:30 Mass. Gee Gee always sat left of the altar with her friend of over 60, years Doris Wilson.

Gloria was pre-deceased by her husband Lorie and her son, Lonnie. She is survived by her daughters, Ginger and April, her son-in-law Michael, her grand-daughters, Tahra, Jacci and Shannon, her nephew Marlon, grand-nephew Marlon, grand-niece April, and grandson-in-law, Alex. She also leaves behind a cadre of lifelong friends and acquaintances. She will be truly missed by all.
