Obituary for Leslie Spencer Cooper

Leslie Spencer Cooper of Brooklyn, New York, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 22, 2017.

Who is Leslie Spencer Cooper?
Leslie Cooper was born August 31, 1915, in the parish of St. Thomas, Jamaica, West Indies to Maud Stewart and Roderick Cooper. He was the eldest of 7 children. He was married to Vera (Manning) Cooper, December 29, 1951 in Kingston, Jamaica and migrated to the United States of America in 1968. Leslie was predeceased by his wife Vera in 2004.

Leslie was an electrician by trade. He loved his job as an electrician and could be compared to a doctor in his trade. He was called upon at all hours of the night and never thought twice to get his tools and his little black bag and be on his way to be of service. Many times he would not even charge for the services he rendered.

Leslie Cooper was President of the Greene Avenue Block Association for over 20 years. During that time he organized annual block parties where he distributed gifts to children in the community. He started a community garden where flowers and vegetables were planted. The vegetables were distributed to those in the community. He was also instrumental in having a senior citizen building built for elders in the community.

Leslie received many citations from the City of New York for work in his Brooklyn community. One citation he received from Member of Assembly, Darryl C. Towns was for being an outstanding citizen......one who is worthy of the esteem of both the community and the Great State of New York.

He also worked in campaigns for many of the politicians from City Council members, State Legislatures and the US Congress.

Leslie Cooper is survived by his only daughter Pam, son-in-law Michael, two granddaughters, Michelle and Nicole, and four great grandchildren, Alexis, Brielle, Bianca and Caleb.

Leslie.....May your soul Rest In Peace.
