Obituary for Gertrude Hipp (Deveaux)

Mrs. Gertrude Allegra Deveaux Hipp, a 74 year resident of White Plains, NY, died October 16, 2017. Mrs. Hipp was born on July 18, 1921 in Yemasee, SC to the late Julia Robinson Deveaux and Aurelius Deveaux, Jr. After graduating from Mather School, Beaufort, SC, she moved to White Plains, NY where she met and married Mr. Charles Hipp in 1943. They had five children and she was an amazing wife and mother.

She was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church and of various PTAs of the White Plains Public Schools. Mrs. Gertrude Hipp was an original staff member of the White Plains Child Day Care Association. After her retirement, Mrs. Hipp returned to her love of gardening, cooking, crocheting and sewing. Mrs. Hipp was a neighbor and friend who would help others in any way she could, and share with those in need.

Mrs. Gertrude Hipp is survived by her sister, Mrs. Mildred Carelock of White Plains, NY; Four children - Mildred Patricia Blackwell of White Plains, NY, Charles Hipp of White Plains, Carl Hipp (Susan) of Racine, WI and Mary Marquis (Errol) of White Plains. She is also survived by six grandchildren and a great grandchild, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Hipp was predeceased by her parents, husband, and brothers Eddie, Jimmy and Clarence Deveaux. She is also predeceased by a son, Robert (Bobby) Hipp.
