Obituary for Mable Drake

Mable Drake
Ms. Mable Drake, daughter of Dee and Esther Drake, was born on August 17th 1926 in Rocky Mount, Nash County, North Carolina. She was the sister of Percy Drake, Melton Drake, Mary Hester, Laura Whitehead, Lucille Glover, James Drake, Raymond Drake and Gertrude Richardson. She transitioned from her early life to his heavenly home on February 23rd, 2017.

Mable Drake moved to NY at age 14 and resided with Lucille & Thomas Glover. She attended White Plains High School and then furthered her education as a Medical Assistant.

She worked for Mr. Jacobs for more than 60 years and formed a great friendship with him and the Jacobs family. She was fortunate enough to retire on December 28th, 2016 after many years of dedicated service.

Ms. Drake was a strong advocate for education. She was also a consummate philanthropist dedicating her time and resources to unfortunate children in Africa. Mable was one of the members of the advisory board for the John Williams Montessori School in Kumasi, Ghana which was accredited by the United Nations. In addition, she was also a member of the NAACP and the Black Women’s Caucus.

Mable traveled extensively throughout the states and abroad with friends. She always encouraged other people to travel as she believed traveling would enrich anyone’s life. Much of her time was spent assisting the elderly and the less fortunate.

Her life will forever be cherished by her family. Mable Drake is survived by her sister; Lucille Glover, a host of nieces, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and nephews, and great great great nieces and nephews.
