Obituary for Dr. William Milton Jackson

Dr. William Milton Jackson
Dr. William Milton Jackson of Greenburgh passed away June 11, 2015. William was born on May 24, 1928 in New York City to Richard and Clarice (Stewart) Jackson. His sibling, Carmen, had been born two years earlier. The two were raised in Harlem where William was known to his family and friends as Milton. William attended New York City public schools. He ran track and played football in high school. He attended St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Harlem where he served as an acolyte. William attended Columbia University before being drafted into the Army and stationed in Korea and Germany. After his honorable discharge he returned to New York where he completed his studies at City College earning bachelors degree in chemistry. William and Mary Wright were married on May 17,1959 and welcomed their first child Melanie two years later. The family moved from Harlem to Greenburgh in 1965 where their second child William Jr. (Billy) was born a few years later. In their new home the family became parishioners of Grace Episcopal Church where William participated in the Brotherhood of Saint Andrew.
William worked for several years as a lab technician at New York University. Then at the age of 42, he pursued a long-held aspiration and commenced study at the NYU College of Dentistry. He graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in 1974. William was a dentist for the Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center and then the Greenburgh Neighborhood Health Center, while also maintaining a private practice in White Plains until his retirement. An avid fisherman and occasional hunter he loved dogs, a
succession of whom lived with the family throughout his life. He was a sports enthusiast and knowledgeable about most of them. He also kept abreast of current events and could converse on almost any subject. Though he suffered health problems that ultimately lead to the amputation of his legs, William persevered with equanimity and without self-pity.

Predeceased by his parents Richard and Clarice Jackson, and his sister Carmen Wells, he is survived by his wife Mary (Wright) Jackson; children Melanie Jackson (Marc Walters) and William Jackson Jr.; grandchildren Aaron and Dana Walters; brother-in-law Vincent Wells; nieces Laureen Wells, Sylvia West, Teresa Clifton and Veronica Stark: nephews Kevin Wells, Reginald Hall, Gregory Hall and Lamont Lucas.

Visitation Thursday, June 18 starting 9:00AM, followed by Funeral Mass at 10:00AM, all at
Grace Episcopal Church, 33 Church Street, White Plains, NY 10601. Interment immediately following at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, NY.

Contributions may be made in his honor/memory, to Lifting Up Westchester at 35 Orchard St., White Plains, NY 10603, or to the charity of your choice. You may also light a candle above in his honor/memory, as another form of condolence.
