Obituary for Gladys Irene Phillips (Reid)

Gladys Irene Phillips (Reid)
Gladys Irene Phillips was born on the 20th October 1920. She was the youngest child to Brandford and May from the Gardens St. James, Barbados West Indies.

Gladys leaves to mourn her children Elridge, Elsie and Juliet, her 7 grandchildren Hyacinth, Rupert, Peter, Paul, Verbna, Mark and Andrea, 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Gladys worked in Trinidad for Dr. Little page as a nanny from 1943. She returned to Barbados in 1945 and worked at Porters Sugar Cane Factory from 1945 to 1961. From 1961 she worked with an agency at various private house as a housekeeper. In 1966 mom met the Solls family from Scarsdale NY, and later emigrated to the USA in 1967, to work for them as a housekeeper. Mom work for various families in Scarsdale and New Rochelle on her days off.

Gladys was a loving caring mother to all her family and a compassionate
person to everyone she meet.

Mom love to cook, sew, Knit and bake the best pone or great cake you have ever eaten. We all still speak about the warm salt bread (Kaiser rolls) we enjoyed.

In 1995 she retired and travel yearly between Barbados and the USA. Whiles in Barbados she landscape all the gardens around our home, she planted vegetables and flowers. All the while reminding me that you cannot eat flowers you must plant food as well. We converse on many subjects. Mom reminded me when she was in Barbados last where ever she dies that is where her burial should be.

All her family and friends from Barbados send their condolences.
May she rest in peace and rise in glory. We all love you and will miss you
dearly.
