Wardell Allen Waters, Sr., 74, of Middletown, Delaware and formerly of Salisbury, Maryland, passed away on November 18, 2014, at Select Specialty Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware. Wardell, the son of the late Lethia Holden Waters and Elijah Waters, was born on February 18, 1940 in Rahway, New Jersey.
In 1958, Wardell moved to White Plains, New York. He served in the United States Air Force.
Prior to retiring in 1990, he worked at Verizon, formerly New York Telephone, as a manager. In 2005, he and his wife moved to Salisbury, MD where they lived until 2013. In 2013, they moved to Middletown, DE.
"Wydell," as he was affectionately called, loved to play golf, hunt and fish. He had an outgoing personality and was someone you wouldn't soon forget.
Wardell is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sandra Waters, daughter, Cynthia (Douglas) Cooney, son, Wardell Waters, Jr., granddaughter, Martina Cooney, brother, Gathan Waters, special cousin, Lillian K. Reed, whom he regarded as his sister, other cousins, in-laws, and friends.
Mr. Waters will lie in repose on Saturday, November 22, 2014, from 12 to 1 PM at First Baptist Church, 528 Booth Street & Delaware Avenue, Salisbury, Maryland. The funeral service will begin at 1 PM. Rev. Dr. Lewis N. Watson will be the officiating pastor. Final visitation for Mr. Waters will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Lee's Funeral Home, LLC, 160 Fisher Avenue, White Plains, NY. Interment will follow at Kensico Cemetery, 273 Lakeview Avenue, Valhalla, New York.
