Obituary for Alyce F. Bowman (Fisher)

Print
Alyce Victoria Fisher Bowman was born in Mount Kisco, New York to the late William and Annie Fisher. On Sunday, November 4, 2018 she passed away at Calvary Hospital, Bronx, New York.

Alyce was educated in the Bedford Hills school system. After graduating from high school, she attended the YMCA Business College in New York City for two years.

As a child, Alyce joined Antioch Baptist Church in Bedford Hills, New York. She moved to White Plains and decided to become a member of Bethel Baptist Church, where she was also married by Rev. Slater to William Bowman in 1946. To their union two children were born. They were married for forty-nine years.

Alyce worked for various companies, but her most significant employment was at the Urban League of Westchester. She was hired in 1953. Fifty years later, in 2003 she retired, but continued to volunteer. She held a variety of titles and positions, i.e. job counselor, administrative assistant and acting executive director. Her pride and joy was that she wrote and implemented a clerical refresher senior help project.

Alyce ran track in high school and played various instruments, including the piano. She was the first black secretary at Reader's Digest in Chappaqua, New York. She was a hard worker at the Urban League Guild and NAACP ACT-SO. She was also a member of the Black Women's Political Caucus as well as several other organizations.

Alyce "Nana" was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She always loved being surrounded by family and long time friends ... enjoying life to the fullest. She loved to travel, cook, dance, go to parties and festivals. She enjoyed fish dinners prepared by Chef El-Amin at the Greenburgh Center every week.

Alyce was preceded in death by her husband, William Bowman; sisters, Mattie Cook and Pearl Johnson; brothers, Willard, Robert, Billy, Arthur and Ernest Fisher. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Cheryl Lucas (Ron); son, Steven Bowman (Jacqueline); four grandchildren, Tomara Dulaney (Reggie), Sasheen Phillips (David), Khalib Lucas and Malika Lucas (Gladys); five great grandchildren, Malik and Miles Phillips, Waverly and Braven Dulaney and Talib Walker; four nephews, Kyle, Norman, Scott and James Fisher; one godchild, Donna Davis Lewis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and very close friends.
