Obituary for George R. Fields

George Ray Fields was born in White Plains, New York on March 2, 1928 to the late Margaret Easley Fields and Clarence Fields Sr. He lived most of his life in the Fairview/Greenburgh area. He along with his three brothers and three sisters are from one of the longest standing families in Fairview. Mr. Fields graduated from the Greenburgh High School and spent most of his career working for The Travelers Insurance Company in New York City until his retirement in 1990

George Fields was involved in many community and civic organizations including; The Fairview Economic Development Corporation, he served as president of The Fairview Civic League. He also significantly contributed both historical narrative and pictures to the recently published book "Our Roots Run Deep – A Pictorial Study of African -American Life in the Town of Greenburgh, NY from the 1800’s into the 21st Century".

Mr. Fields was a well-known local artist whose wonderful paintings were displayed at the Greenburgh Public Library, The African American Festival at the Kensico Dam, and Greenburgh Town Hall Matters of the Heart Art Expedition, and other places around Westchester County.

Mr. Fields died peacefully on Thursday October 17, 2018, leaving behind his brother Richard and his sister Alease, both also long time Greenburgh residents, his Sisters Barbara James and Louise (Kitty) Johnson and brothers Clarence (Jack) Fields and William (Groanie) Fields preceeded him. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and many other family members and friends.
