Obituary for Patricia Ann "Trish"; "Patsy Carter"; "Pats"; "Nana" Carter

Patricia Ann "Trish"; "Patsy Carter"; "Pats"; "Nana" Carter
Patricia Ann Carter was born on September 28, 1948 in Jamaica, NY and transitioned on June 18, 2018 following a lengthy illness.

Affectionately known as Trish, Patsy Carter, and Pats to family and friends, Trish was raised in White Plains, NY alongside her beloved Seward family. Trish is predeceased by her father, Joseph Carter; her mother, Curtiss Seward Carter; and her granddaughter, Nichelle M.D. Clarke.

Trish attended White Plains Public Schools. While attending White Plains High School, she spent much of her time supporting school and community events and spending time with her childhood friends who formed their own sisterhood society club, the Egyptorials. Trish was very proud to be an Egyptorial and the sisterhood remained an intricate part of her adult life. After high school, Trish attended The College of Westchester and later worked as a paralegal where she spent many years convincing lawyers to provide legal assistance to underrepresented and disenfranchised populations.

When she wasn’t working, she spent much of her time expressing her love for everything White Plains High School and everything White Plains by volunteering to chair numerous committees and through her unwavering support to community events and numerous White Plains social groups. In her spare time, Trish loved to read and write poetry, challenge family and friends to “Words with Friends” competitions, complete New York Times Word Puzzles, cook, travel, and listen to music, especially the Temptations and Aaron Neville.

Trish’s favorite thing to do was to love and bring joy to her family and friends. Her infectious laugh and beautiful smile would light up the sky and leave you feeling the greatest sense of love. You couldn’t help but join in and fall in love when you heard Trish laugh. Trish loved everything about life and people, but above everything, her greatest joy of all was becoming and being called Nana.

Trish married James H. Coleman Jr. in 1969. They reared two daughters, Lieutenant Colonel Staci N. Coleman, USAF, of Fort Walton Beach, FL and Stefani Lee Clarke (Naquan) of Fleetwood, NY. Trish also leaves behind to celebrate her transition, her sister Pauline Reed (Aaron) of Long Beach, CA; her grandson, Naquan Clarke Jr. of Fleetwood, NY; her cousin who was raised and loved like a brother, Arthur J. Seward (Mary Ann) of Honesville, PA; her aunt Mary Wallace of Orange, NJ; her lifelong devoted friend, Judy Williams of Huntersville, NC; her longtime aide and companion who she loved like a daughter, Irma Arroyo of Bronx, NY; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who Trish loved and called family.

To her family and friends, Trish represented unconditional love, unmeasurable strength, and an unrelenting attitude of perseverance and courage. Words cannot express how much she will be missed. She was an extraordinary woman with a heart big enough to love the world.
