Obituary for Harriet M. Dash

Harriet Dash departed this life and went on to be with The Lord on October 15, 2017. Harriet was born in Rock Hill, South Carolina to Charlie and Josephine Dunlap. She was the youngest daughter of eight girls and one brother. Harriet remained in Rock Hill until completing Emmett Scott High School and Clinton Junior College, receiving an Associates Degree.

Harriett had three sisters who had previously relocated to New York, so she decided to join them. She and her sisters, Willie M. Ross and Bennie M. Lipsey all resided in White Plains, NY. It was then that Harriet and her sisters joined Mt. Hope AME Zion Church under the leadership of Rev. James A. Arnold.

After joining the church, she met the “Love of Her Life” - James J. Dash (now deceased) and from this union they had three daughters: Dolores (Dee), Patricia, and Sandra (now deceased).

Harriet was very active in Mt. Hope – among her organizations were the Gospel Chorus, Missionaries, Stewardesses and the Odyssey Club. She supported many other clubs and organizations.

Harriet retired from Westchester Medical Center with a long career in Nursing which to present has brought her many good friends and relationships.

Harriett, also known to her family as “MAMA”, and “DASH” to her friends was always cheerful no matter what. She knew how to laugh and keep you in line at the same time – cooking and eating were her passion. She loved sports, especially baseball (The Mets) and basketball (The Knicks). She loved her family, planning activities for them and traveling. She was always the “Supervisor”.

Harriet leaves to cherish her beautiful memory daughters: Dolores (Dee) Dash and Patricia (Gordon) DeRouseau. Six grandchildren: Torrez Dash, Nicholle (Joe) Charles-Pierre, Sequoia Goodman, Danielle (Jeffrey) Bagley, Michael DeRouseau, and Audrea Dash-Goodman. Seven great grandchildren: Jashyhad Brice-Dash, Daezure Bryant-Dash, Jayden Roberts-Dash, Noah Mitchell-Dash, Danaii Daniels-Dash, Jeffrey Bagley, III & Lena Charles-Pierre. In addition she leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Harriett was pre-deceased by her husband, James J. Dash and daughter, Sandra Dash-Goodman.
