Obituary for Sammie "Son" Jenkins Jr.

Sammie "Son" Jenkins Jr.
Sammie Jenkins, Jr. was born in Eutawville, SC on February 25, 1943 to the late Sammie Jenkins Sr. and Rebecca Blanch Milligan Jenkins. Nicknamed “Son” he was the only boy of three children. Sammie’s elementary education was in Eutawville, SC and he attended high school Columbia, SC.

Sammie has been a hard worker all his life, at the age of 9 years old one of his first jobs was picking cotton and shining shoes.

In 1962 Sammie relocated to White Plains, New York to join his mother and sisters, Marylou “Dziko” Emu (Joseph) and (preceded) Janie Mae Leisir (Ralph)

When he arrived in New York he worked as a stock person for Macy's for 9 years. He was a proud employer for AT&T for 34 years. Sammie had an entrepreneurial spirit and owned “Sammie’s Cleaning Service” for 15 years.

On November 26, 1980 he was joined in holy matrimony to his beloved wife Sandra Bowen. They have resided in Elmsford, NY since 1987 where they built a home together and created wonderful memories.

Sammie gave his life to Christ and was baptized at Bethel Baptist Church in 1999. He was a member of Sunday school, the Men’s Ministry and the Usher Board.

A Mason, Sammie was a member of the James H. Farrell Lodge # 34 since 1979. He enjoyed fishing with his friends, listening to jazz music and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. Everybody who knew Sammie, knew he loved to “Look Sharpe”.

Sammie was called home to be with the Lord on June 16, 2017 at White Plains Hospital after a long battle with Emphysema/COPD.

In addition to his wife, Sammie’s legacy lives on through his three children: Sydney Jenkins-Hall (Karl) of White Plains, NY, Casey Alexander Jenkins (Serena) of Baltimore, MD, and Samantha Jenkins Hurley (Scott) of Sandy Springs, GA; Five grandchildren: Kevin Pleasant Jenkins, Kimberlee Doub (James), Lashaunda Banks, Kylie Hall, KJ Hall; three great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
