Obituary for Charles "Chuck" Bronz

Charles (Chuck) Bronz was born on April 9, 1931 to the late Benjamin Bronz and Freda Werner. He passed away on the afternoon of Friday, April 21, 2017, at The Grove at Valhalla, where he received excellent care for the past several years.

Chuck attended Stuyvesant High School in New York City followed by Bowling Green University in Ohio. He moved on to a career at the 92nd Street “Y” in NYC, as Director of Health and Physical Education for 15 years.

It was on a vacation to New Orleans where Chuck met and fell in love with Lois, who he later celebrated 50 years of marriage. Chuck and Lois traveled around the world including China and Africa. Near and dear to his heart were the numerous camping trips with his grandchildren. Holidays meant an open-door policy at home.

Chuck was deeply involved with his Westchester community. He was a Math teacher in the Greenburgh 7 School District; a football coach at Woodland’s and Tuckahoe Middle/High Schools; served on the Greenburgh School Board as a trustee; served on the Westchester County Democratic Committee at all levels; chaired the Elmsford/Greenburgh Community Action Program (CAP); was a member and father figure with Fathers and Children Together (F.A.C.T.); served on the Planning Committee of Westchester Youth Services; was a member of the Board of Directors of the Elmsford/Greenburgh N.A.A.C.P.; and was on the Health and Physical Education Committee of the NJWB (National Jewish Welfare Board) as a consultant to physical education directors from all over the country.

If asked, what is his motto?, Chuck would reply “You have to give something back”. He valued this family, friends, community, and decent government.

Chuck leaves to cherish his heartfelt memories and legacy, his loving wife Lois Bronz; daughter Francine Taplin Shorts; son Edgar L. Taplin & daughter-in-law Mary McMahon Taplin; sister Aileen Spence and Brother-in-law Ian Spence; 4 grandchildren: Dorian Shorts, Nora Taplin Kaguru (Bill Kaguru Wanjohi), Buck Taplin, Gyasi Shorts, and a host of dear relatives & friends. A daughter Shelly Taplin predeceased him.

In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates/kindly requests memorial donations be made in his name to:
