Evelyn Elizabeth Roberts, nee Selby was born in Philadelphia, PA on March 7, 1919 to Frank Lee Selby of Snow Hill, MD and Mary Augusta Young of Gaithersburg, MD. She was the fourth of their seven children.

At the age of fourteen she along with her family moved to White Plains, NY where she remained for the rest of her life. She attended the White Plains City Schools until High School. When she was eighteen she married Leroy Middleton. From this union her daughter, Arlene Blackwell nee Middleton, was born. They later divorced.

She was a beautician and in her later years became a cook in the Greenburgh Central 7 School district. In the 1960's and 1970's she owned and operated her own shop, Evie’s Beauty Salon.

While in her early thirties she met and married Doyle Roberts, together with his son Doyle Ray Roberts and Arlene Middleton they became a family. From this union a son, Richard A. Roberts was born. Evelyn and Doyle remained together until his death in 1994.

Evelyn, affectionately called “Grandma” loved to host parties and dinners at her Greenburgh home. New Years Eve, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, any accomplishment or graduation would be a cause for celebration. Her fried chicken was renown. When hosting and cooking Grandma was at her best.

Next to being a host Evelyn liked shopping the most. Every Saturday she and Arlene would go shopping, whether they needed anything or not. In her later years when she began to have difficulty getting around, there was always QVC or The Shopping Channel. She enjoyed these things until her vision began to fail her in her 90's. She remained feisty through her mid 90's as dementia and Alzheimer's disease began to take their toll.

She leaves behind two children, Arlene and Richard, Doyle Ray predeceased her in 2014; Ronald Blackwell, her son in law, also predeceased her in 2016; three daughters in law Barbara Roberts, Guylaine Charbonneau and Adrienne Concra Roberts; seven grandchildren, Ronald Doyle Blackwell, Richard Allen Blackwell, Donald Ray Roberts, Adrienne Michelle Wood, Genevieve Michelle Roberts, Giselle Louise Roberts and Gabrielle Lynn Roberts; six great grand children, Adrianne, Alexandra, Aaliyah, & Derrick Roberts, Kristina & Lauren Wood; care giver Luvennie Johnson; many nieces, nephews; grand nieces and grand nephews; and many, many friends who knew and loved her.
