Obituary for Zedekiah "Eddie" Grant

In Loving Memory

Zedekiah Grant was born October 11, 1931 in Clarendon, Jamaica, West Indies to Justin Grant and Rachel Dyer. He united in Holy Matrimony to his beloved wife, Esmie Cynthia Grant, on March 30, 1966 in Kingston, Jamaica. To his loving union, two sons, Michael and Arthur and one daughter Sharon, were born. He entered into eternal peace on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at his home in Lake Mary, Florida.

Zedekiah Grant was a loving and committed husband to his wife Esmie and dedicated dad, father, role model and mentor to his children. When he arrived to the United States, he assisted his mother and step-father with their community based dry cleaning business in Greenburgh, New York. Zedekiah always enjoyed working with his hands as a furniture craftsman in Jamaica and later as a skilled carpenter foreman building luxury homes throughout the New York tristate area. He took great pride and honor as a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Union for fifty years (1962–2012) where he received service award, plagues, watches and other items of recognition. While working hard outdoors during the hot summers and frigged winter months to support his family, he was also a focused businessman and real estate investor. After retirement, Zedekiah and Esmie relocated to enjoy the year-long wonderful weather in the sunshine state of Florida where they took annual cruises. He took pride in his fruit trees and having a beautiful landscaped yard which resulted in him receiving the homeowners association’s house of the month award.

Zedekiah leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his wife of 50 years, Esmie Cynthia Grant (Lake Mary, FL), adoring sons, Michael Grant (Silver Spring, MD) and Arthur Grant (White Plains, NY) and loving daughter Sharon Grant-Robinson (Sanford, FL), half-brothers Ronnie Grant (Cayman Islands) and Cleveland Grant (Jamaica), and a host of in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. He is predeceased by his father Justin Grant, son Wesley Grant and will lay to rest next to his mother Rachel (Dyer) Thompson, step-father Arthur Thompson and his brother Mortimer “Sonny” Grant.

Zedekiah called “Gee” from his loving wife and also known by his friends as “Zeek”, “Zeddy” and “Eddie” touched and made a difference in the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his sense of humor. Let us celebrate for this is not an ending, but this is actually the beginning of his new life. Death leaves a heartache that no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal. You will always be in our thoughts and hearts for this is his birth into eternity until we meet again.
