Obituary for Valerie Patty Evans

In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were no so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may also be.
John 14: 2-4

OBITUARY

Valerie Patty Evans, age 56, died peacefully at home in Hartsdale, N.Y. on Monday, May 2, 2016.

Born February 22, 1960 in Tarrytown, NY to the late Mildred (Robinson) and Herman Evans, she was their only child. She attended the Elmsford Union Free School District and was a 1978 graduate of Alexander Hamilton High School, where she was a cheerleader and actively involved in the Black Student Union and other extra curricula activities. She went on to obtain a BS in Business from Hofstra University in Long Island, NY.

At an early age, Valerie accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, and was baptized at First Baptist Church in Elmsford, NY where she remained a member until her death. She was a member and served with Phillipian Ministry, Missionary Ministry and the Youth Educational Outreach Ministry.

As a young adult Valerie lived on Long Island before moving back to Elmsford, NY to care for her ailing mother. She was employed by American Express for a number of years until her division was relocated to Florida. Her next employment was at the Bank of New York where she remained until they closed. At the time of her passing, Valerie was a Senior Research Manager in the Westchester office of Deerfield Management, an investment management firm dedicated to advancing healthcare through investment, information and philanthropy. Valerie became a Deerfielder in 2007 and was one of the first employees of Deerfield’s in-house research group, Deerfield Institute. She was a mentor to her colleagues in the Westchester office and her presence there will be deeply missed.

Valerie was a wonderful, kind and gentle soul. She had a warm spirit and a calming affect on all who came in contact with her. She always saw the good in all God's children and she loved life.

Valerie was predeceased by her parents, Mildred and Herman Evans. She is survived by two uncles, Charles Evans and James Turner; 2 aunts, Ellen Gray and Lucy Gupton; Her Godchild, Ashley Blandshaw; A group of devoted “sista friends”: Anne Greenidge and her family (Patti, Dana and Suzanne), Joanne Briley, Betty Funny-Crosby, Cynthia Pearson, Carmen Rivera, Linda Roberto, Kerri Seacord, Greta Thompson-Rogers, Sylvia Watson, and a host of cousins and friends.

I REST
"Reach down, I cried, "Dear Jesus, and take my trembling hand. The path I tread is lonely and I do not understand the landmarks on the road ahead; They're hidden from my view." Then Jesus whispered softly, Fear not. I'll carry you. "So now, though darkness deepens, I am divinely blessed,
For come what may, within His arms I rest .......... I sweetly rest”

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
The Evans and Funny-Crosby family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for all acts of kindness and sympathy during their bereavement. May God continue to bless each and every one of you.
