Obituary for Henry James "Harry" Rogers

Henry (Harry) James Rogers was born on July 23, 1932 in the Bronx, New York, to Edith Wiles Rogers and Vincent Rogers. During his early childhood, the family moved to Harlem where he attended school. In 1950 he graduated from Technical High School in Manhattan. Shortly after his graduation he was drafted into the Army. He served two years in Korea in the Signal Core. After his discharge from the Army he attended CCNY on the GI Bill. In 1956 Harry was hired by the IRS where he worked for 31 years. During his employment, he often received recognition and awards for his excellent work (including the coveted Galatin Award).

In 1972 Harry met the love of his life, Carolyn Petty Potter and they were married at Grace Episcopal Church on November 24, 1973. Harry became a very involved and active member of Grace Church. His involvement included: two terms on the vestry; Head of Grounds and Buildings Committee; ushering; money counter; Lay Reader; Eucharistic Visitor; and volunteer in the GCCC Soup Kitchen.

Harry leaves behind his loving wife, Carolyn; his spiritually adopted children, Deborah and Michael Potter; Daughter-in-law, Mika Potter; Grandchildren Justin Dabney, Natasha Hogg, Erika and Tyler Potter; Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law Bruce and Margrith Petty; Warren Petty; brothers David, Vincent and John; and many nieces and nephews. Harry’s sister Betty and brother Frank predeceased him.

Harry will be sorely missed by all whose lives he touched, and his sweet, kind, generous presence will never be forgotten.
