Obituary for Samuel Edward Allen

Life’s Journey

Samuel Edward Allen peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home on Sunday February 22nd with his wife by his side. He was the last of three children born to Lucille Chestnut Allen and William Allen, Sr. in Cayce, South Carolina.

Affectionately known as Sam he served in the United States Army until 1946. After settling in White Plains he worked for Gold Service Movers for many years where he subsequently retired.

Sam was introduced to Ora Lee Norman by her Uncle Otis Martin. On July 16, 1954 Sam married the love of his life. They enjoyed many years of travelling, entertaining friends and worshipping together often in the same clubs and organizations. In 2014 Sam and Ora Lee were honored by Mt. Hope A.M.E. Zion Church for 60 years of marriage.

Sam was a dedicated member of the Mt. Hope A.M.E. Zion Church where he served for over 60 years. He loved to sing and was a member of the well known Mt. Hope Male Chorus. He also sang on the Sr. Choir and Inspirational Choir. Sam was a member of the Odyssey Club and dedicated member of the Board of Trustees. He loved his church and church family.

Sam is survived by his loving wife Ora Lee; one great nephew George Haigler, Elmsford, NY and a faithful friend John Hargrove, Elmsford, NY. He leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Sam is predeceased by his brother William Allen, Jr., sister Anna Taylor and son Melvin.
