Elizabeth Holland born on March 8,1924,the third daughter to Prophet and Phoebe Mitchell. Her sisters Gwen, Rosalee, Dean, and Marge all grew up in Beaufort, South Carolina. Her parents created a nurturing atmosphere and gave all the girls the opportunity to go to college. During the summers, her parents would find work as cooks at the Resorts in the Catskills Mountains in New York State. Meanwhile, the girls would be in boarding school. Elizabeth, while at the Shanklin Boarding School in Sheldon, South Carolina, became a teacher, and numerous times would bring students home to tutor. She was very popular in high school, and became 'Miss Robert Smalls'. She represented her school at football games, and social outings.
In the early 1940's, she met her future husband, Harry Holland from White Plains, New York. They married in October 1947. From their marriage their sons were born, Harrison and Dennis. Elizabeth was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, she was faith based, and a devoted wife. Her cooking was legendary among her family members. Just to mention her spaghetti and sausages, collard greens, ham, okra, mac & cheese, split pea soup, her chocolate cake, and her pies, would bring "Oh Yeah" out of the mouths of family and friends. But the most important thing Elizabeth brought to the table of life was her friendly disposition, quick wit, and her total devotion to family. She was the main ingredient in the recipe called family. She is a constant positive role model to this day, and always.
On January 15, 2015 Elizabeth was turned over to our Lord, and joined her predeceased husband Harry, in heaven. She is loved and will be deeply missed by her loving sisters and brother-in-law Rosalee, Marge and Jessie; her sons and daughters-in-law Harrison and Terry, Dennis and Marge; grandchildren Justin, Gregory, and Nicole; and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.
