Obituary for Betty M. "Nannie" Dyett (Johnston)

Betty M. "Nannie"  Dyett (Johnston)
Betty M. Dyett (affectionately known as Nannie), 90, the daughter of the late Sidney & Elva Johnston, was born in Worcester, MA on November 15, 1924. She departed this life on December 9, 2014 at Yale-New Haven Hospital, St. Raphael Campus, CT.

After completing her secondary education, she enrolled at Mercy School of Nursing in Pennsylvania. While there, she met the love of her life, future physician, Benjamin Ivan Dyett. They were married in Philadelphia on March 19, 1951 and ultimately settled in White Plains, NY. They were blessed with 4 children, Laura, Deborah, Sharyn & Benjamin, Jr.

Mrs. Dyett was active in many civic and service organizations. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in White Plains, NY for more than 40 years. Upon moving to Woodbridge, CT in 2003, she attended Trinity Church on the Green in New Haven. She was a Life Member of Jack & Jill of America, Inc., and a charter member of the Greater Hudson Valley Chapter of The Links, Inc. Nannie was a master bridge Player, a member of the Bronx-Westchester Bridge Club and the winner of multiple bridge trophies and awards. She was also an avid tennis player and a founder of the annual Mashpee Invitational Tennis Tournament in Mashpee, MA.

Her husband, Dr. Benjamin Ivan Dyett, predeceased her. She is survived by her children, Laura Hamilton (Anthony Tavernia) of Mt. Vernon, NY, Dr. Deborah Desir (Dr. Gary Desir) of Woodbridge, CT, Sharyn Dyett of Woodbridge, CT, Benjamin I. Dyett, Jr. (Rosemarie Ryan) of Brooklyn, NY; seven grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; a sister, Pauline Pharr of White Plains, NY; a brother Edward Johnston of Worcester, MA; many loving nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.

Family will receive friends and viewing will be held at Trinity Church on the Green, 230 Temple Street, New Haven, CT on Friday December 12, 2014 at 10am. The funeral will be held immediately following the viewing at 11am.
