Obituary for Annie L. Rivers (Logan)

Annie L. Rivers, without a whimper, sigh or moan, but quietly and serenely, was called from labor to reward on Friday October 17, 2014 at home surrounded by family.

Annie first shone her beautiful light upon this world on November 20, 1946 in North, S.C. to the late Earline P. Oliver and Demps Logan Jr. She was raised by her grandparents, the late Reverend Dicie and Annie Logan. At a very young age, Annie joined Jerusalem Baptist Church where she was a member of the Usher Board.

After graduating from Dover High School, she relocated to Elmsford, NY. In 1964, she received a certificate from the Westchester Business Institute (WBI) in White Plains, NY. During that same year, she joined the Union Baptist Church where she became a faithful member of the adult Sunday School, secretary of the South Carolina Ministry and a member of several choirs.

On June 10, 1967, she married the love of her life, Woodrow Rivers Jr. in holy matrimony at Union Baptist Church. From that union, they were blessed with two sons, Melvin B. Rivers and Michael B. Rivers. Annie was an extremely devoted wife and mother. She was known for her unique smile that touched everyone’s soul or brightened everyone’s day.

Annie had various occupations throughout her life before becoming employed with the Greenburgh Central 7 school district. During this time, she received an associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Westchester Community College. Annie retired from the school district as a Teacher’s Assistant in June 2013.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories, her husband of forty-seven years, Deacon Woodrow Rivers Jr; two sons, Melvin (Annette) Rivers of Bridgeport, CT, Michael (Angela) Rivers of Baltimore, MD; four sisters, Teresa (Gary) Edmonds of Orangeburg, SC, Sharon Logan of Cayce, SC, Maxine Oliver of Columbia, SC, Faye (Timothy) Milhouse of Neeses, SC; three brothers, Robert Logan Moss of North, SC, Ronald Logan of North, SC, and Harvey McMichael of Neeses, SC; four sisters-in-law; Blondell Donaldson from North, SC, Rose Mitchell of White Plains, NY, Jeanette (Hercules) Johnson of Swansea, SC, Annette (Alvin) Knotts of Orangeburg, SC; four brothers-in-law; Carl Rivers of Mamaroneck, NY, Thomas Rivers of Orangeburg, SC, Maceo (Gretchen) Rivers of Bridgeport, CT, Melvin Rivers of North, SC; three God Children; Allison Knots, Monica and Terence Arismendez.
