Obituary for Herman "Main Man" Evans

Herman Evans, the son of Charles and Patty Taylor Evans, was born July 7, 1930 in Henderson, North Carolina.

At an early age, Herman accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, and was baptized at Flat Creek Baptist Church.

As a young adult he moved to Tarrytown, NY, and found employment at General Motors as a forklift operator.
Herman loved to sing, so he joined a gospel group, the Northernaires. While traveling with the group he met his future wife, Mildred Robinson, also a gospel singer. They married in 1956 and the union produced a daughter, Valarie Patty Evans.

Herman was a genuinely kind and gentle soul, who loved to laugh. He saw the good in all God's children and loved life. He gave everyone a nickname and was known by King Fish or Main Man. From 1980 -1990, he was known as "King Fish", this name given by the late Rev. Alexander Briley Jr. From 1990 to the present, Herman was affectionately dubbed "Main Man" by his one year old sidekick and neighbor, Brandon Crosby.
In 1988, Herman retired from General Motors, after 30 plus years of outstanding service.

Herman passed away quietly on the morning of January 18, 2014. He was predeceased by his wife, Mildred Evans and survived by his daughter, Valarie Patty Evans, Brother Charles Evans and Sisters Ellen Gray, Lucy Gupton, brother in law James Turner and a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 6 siblings: Erma, John, Lewis, and Martha Evans; Lizie James and Mary Hamilton.
